The meaning of Christmas is not to prove how much you can spend on someone. The meaning of Christmas is also not to criticize and dismiss with insults anyone who spends more than what you deem appropriate. The meaning of Christmas is to show people you love them, and some people do that with more expensive gifts that they may find more meaningful. That isn’t being “insane” or “materialistic”, it’s being thoughtful and wanting to give a gift that you believe will please them and that you find pleasure in giving.
Its not about buying love, its about giving to someone I love and their reaction. Its about bringing joy to the one I love most. Something they might cherish as a token of my love and devotion. Something they will find joy in using. Something they always needed but didnt have. Something they always wanted but didnt have. Its not the price tag on the gift, its the gift itself regardless of the price tag.
We must all remember that the true meaning of Christmas is love. The real Christmas story is the story of God’s becoming a human being in the Person of Jesus Christ. Why did God do such a thing? Because He loves us! Why was Christmas necessary? Because we needed a Savior! Why does God love us so much? Because He is love itself. Why do we celebrate Christmas each year? Out of gratitude for what God did for us, we remember His birth by giving each other gifts and worshipping Him.
