I think you only mentioned 4.
Burn the elf and put it in your parent's coffee
What about Trans-Siberian orchestra and Manhattan steamroller?
Those two groups are everywhere at christmas
England and the UK are not the same things
The Nightmare Before Christmas is a good example. While some consider it a Halloween movie, in terms of marketing, it’s become a big Christmas tradition. While the movie was not ultra-successful upon it’s release, by the late 2000s when gothic/emo culture became really popular again, it got a lot of attention in the media. Since then, Disney has plastered it over their parks during December and I always see snowglobes and ornaments at local stores.
Some time in the 1960s, mother made a hideous Christmas vest and bow tie and my father actually wore them, presaging the ugly Christmas sweater trend by a few decades. When civil service employees were finally permitted to wear something other than white dress shirts, this office rebel sported fire engine red and blazing orange among other vibrant colours. Those looked good on him; the vest was purely loathsome but he wore it with such panache.
Here in Indonesia and rest of Asia our Christmas song are mostly compilation of Canadian singer Michael Buble Christmas album as a lot of people here are getting real sick of "All I Want For Christmas Is You" song due to the song played since late October to early December in all shopping centers etc and thus people wanted new Christmas song that they aren't sick of hearing it
Who knows. Maybe in some years in near future Mariah Carey is finally be dethroned by Michael Buble songs, especially "Holly Jolly Christmas"
I would say wacky, cool, and creative tree ornaments. I remember making star wars trees and lord of the rings trees.
Christmas music is so stagnant because there’s basically zero room for innovation in the eyes of most people.
The musical pallet available is incredibly small and if there really isn’t anything else to be done with it. If you stick to that pallet it’s forgettable and people prefer to listen to the classics. If you stray away people reject it because it sounds tacky or non-christmassy.
No other genre has its most popular song each year be from decades earlier. It’s just holiday music.
Being Brazilian and only THINKING I understand a lot about American Christmas tradition through media got be absolutely shocked about elf on a shelf being made as recently as 2005 because the way it was stardardized and promoted made me think it was a creation from the very early post war type Christmas
It's interesting that the popularity of Carey's song may have been linked to the movie Love, Actually. While it has become a popular Christmas film, I wonder if it's broad appeal in the US is ultimately limited by it's Britishness, and it's not-so-subtle dissing of the "special relationship," with the UK being the subordinate poodle.
I would add Santacon bar crawls to the mix, apparently the first was only held in 1994, but I know that it is both a widely celebrated and also somewhat disliked event in NYC where I live 😂
I can't believe that Santa clause is literally just a coca cola mascot
Why do you always look down
I think a similarly “holiday-esque” cultural subject that has arisen very recently and would be interesting to talk about would be the topic of ‘unofficial franchise holidays’ like May the 4th; and with Mar10 day coming soon it would be the perfect time to discuss this quite odd phenomenon. The fact that interest in a certain popular games and movie can go so far to manifest itself into what is accentually a community/collectively embraced day that isn’t celebrating a particular milestone or special moment in the history of that franchise, rather, just a date that visually looks like a phrase or name that the public recognizes as being from said franchise. It’s especially weird to see certain companies like Nintendo embrace these communal days of “oh yeah that’s kinda funny” with highlighting or even discounting Mario games on March 10.
Always enjoy your insights and delivery
I’ve noticed more and more people with lights synched to their own radio stations. I’m sure it’s extremely annoying for the neighbors who have to wait in line with all the lookyloos just to enter their garage.
Maaaaaaaaannn being 38; some of those sweaters bring back sooooo many memories. and I am pretty sure I had one or all of those ninja turtle sweaters. haha
For decorations, the red old timey truck carrying a christmas tree recently became really popular.
I was genuinely surprised that you didn't include the Whamageddon! game. Most people I know participate.
More on the theme of change of Christmas traditions, Black Friday seems to be diminishing, replaced by sales that last longer, basically just a Christmas season sale.
are you sitting on a ball, you move around as if you are sitting on a ball like a yoga ball
This might be my imagination, but eating kfc somehow feels like a christmas tradition here in romania
Thank you so much for actually explaining what the hell "elf on the shelf" actually is. All I hear of it is the endless memes that read "You've heard of elf on the shelf, but have you heard of ***** on the *******?"
NO. I HAVE NOT. WHAT ON EARTH ARE YOU SAYING?!
I say again, thank you.
Just noticed that the elf is in a different location each time it cuts back to J.J
The new version of A Christmas Carol is the best Christmas movie since Elf.
You only listed 4
So cute and congrats on the move <3
Music sync to lights
Use of the phrase “Merry Chrysler” has become increasingly popular as far as millennials and Gen-Z are concerned. I don’t think it has caught on with older generations as much because it originated from a 2015 Vine video and has a certain irony to it. The phrase has endured despite Vine’s shutdown and manages to be a somewhat common piece of slang around the holiday season.
I'm sorry… 50 BUCKS?!
I only know ‘All I Want For Christmas’ as a meme. xD
Heathenistic Europeans live in fear of my American Christmas cannon

In Australia, as far back as I can remember, we have had a unique Christmas culture. We try to retain as much of the classic Christmas as possible, but because of the weather it ends up quite different. Also with the mix of cultures in Aus, we get some pretty cool stuff going on.
Best Christmas movies of the 21st century, Arthur Christmas and Fatman.
