Carol For Another Christmas (1964)
Directed by Joseph L. Manckiewics for the United Nations
Written by Rod Serling
Presented without commercial interruptions, this “United Nations Special” was sponsored by the Xerox Corporation, the first of a series of Xerox specials promoting the UN. Director Joseph Mankiewicz’s first work for television, the 90-minute ABC drama was publicized as having an all-star cast (which meant that names of some supporting cast members were not officially released).
In Rod Serling’s update of Charles Dickens, industrial tycoon Daniel Grudge (Sterling Hayden) has never recovered from the loss of his 22-year-old son Marley (Peter Fonda), killed in action during Christmas Eve of 1944. The embittered Grudge has only scorn for any American involvement in international affairs. But then the Ghost of Christmas Past (Steve Lawrence) takes him back through time to a World War I troopship. Grudge also is visited by the Ghost of Christmas Present (Pat Hingle), and the Ghost of Christmas Future (Robert Shaw) gives him a tour across a desolate landscape where he sees the ruins of a once-great civilization.
Others in the cast were Percy Rodriguez, Eva Marie Saint, Ben Gazzara, Barbara Ann Teer, James Shigeta and Britt Ekland. Henry Mancini wrote the theme music, which was recorded for his 1966 holiday LP, A Merry Mancini Christmas.

And now middle east😢😩
Wow. Further proof that Serling was one of the great dramatists. I'd not heard of this one before stumbling across it. Thank you for sharing.
Worst Christmas carol ive ever seen, crap.
The eve of 2024. 60 years later, never more appropriate for Trump's America.
This movie came out in 1964 .The same sentiments towards the Vietnam war was the same it’s not our war. The boys received zero support for serving That war. there were no parades when the boys came home from the Vietnam war in fact many of them did not wear their hair uniforms. We were shameful towards these servicemen that served. We all kept saying here civilians this is not a war they wanted the war over we won and the boys home and finally the war was ended. Now we find ourselves in deeper trouble with other nations with the meat is what they wanted to do in the 60s talk things out will never work now. Biden made us look disgraceful to our enemies and weak and powerless. Our next president canNot smooth the enemy he has to push back and make them realize that America is the great power and he cannot do this by being the nice guy we’re done with that fakeness.
and is being attacked because the American people feel this is not a war. Also I just took off to go overseas to fight when you see pictures of them now they were just children just boys not really knowing what they were getting into. The American people had severe hostility towards this war there was protest upon protest to end the war every night Walter Contact would let the nation know how many soldiers were fallen. This was the first war where the media was in they are reporting and we could see it instantly it was like we were there also. So just received the support from their hometowns here at home in America many of them would not wear their uniforms when they came home. and this is a takeoff on the sentiments of how the American people felt they did not want our Americans in that war they did not support it they do not support our men when they got home and that is a true crime. But now we stand with Biden and watch how he destroyed everything . When our next president is elected he is going to have to carry a big stick and get our power back and let our enemies know we’re not talking we’re standing out ground. The film was fine from the 1960s but for now it’s propaganda for 2024.😅😮
How or why have they kept this off television for 60 years ???
When Will humanity learn it’s lessons and stop waging wars on themselves…
What could keep, or could have kept then, an 18 year old from getting killed in combat could be simply not following the orders of a government that sees men as expendable. Standing up for the rights of men and disavowing misandry is the key. Men are no more objects than are women.
1964 this was broadcast?
My feeling that this may in part have been produced in response to the 1962 Cuban Missle Crisis. From what I understood of that situation, things were pretty damn touch and go back then as to whether WW 3 would erupt. There was a (still pop) 1960s style Xmas carol composed in response to said Crisis, btw. "Do You See What I See?", I think it's titled. One of my favorites. Perhaps this may have been a factor that led Rod to produce his own.
TOTALLY RUINED ANY CONTINUITY OF DRAMA BY YOUTUBE'S FUCKING GREED AND COMERCIALS. WON'T SOMEBODY PLEASE RID US OF THIS MEDDLESOME YOUTUBE!!!!!!
HEY I NEVER SEEN THIS, TURN OR BURN JESUS SAVES, EXCEPT YE REPENT YE SHALL ALL LIKEWISE PERISH LUKE 13-3
If we are watching a video where all the actors are passed away are we watching ghosts 💭🤔
Thanks for posting this rare gem. These days how would anyone even know it existed much less find it. Rod Serling had the ability to see long and deep. This is still so relevant.
This was even more relevant than the first time i saw it in 2012. Now, with the rise of authoritarian dictators in the world, this film is terrifyingly relevant.
so glad I found this, I had no idea Rod Serling produced this, It is great, and very on point with today's issues.
Wow, this is really dumb. People shouldn't try to redo Dickens
Thank you!
Rod Sterling died the same year i was born. Sad, i would of like to have been his bride ❤
this was…horrible. what are these comments talking about? this is legitimate war propaganda. i feel disturbed watching this.
Came across this by accident. OK a bit preachy but overall I thought very powerful. How have they kept this hidden for 50 years. I would like to see this remade in today's perspective. Could be interesting if done live. Can you think of the reaction with today's social media.
The scene with Peter Sellers as ME is prophetic .. it’s a play on Trump… 70 years before he became MAGA man.
Serling was an intellectual and Twilight Zone with its irony was a very highly rated and watched show. I think we have lost some IQ points as a nation.
my gahhhd its the bad guy from …Road House.
Things haven't changed much it seems.
Thank you for posting this movie. It's quite an eye opener, & each passing day, with Russia bearing down on little Ukraine, not that that Gov is free of corruption, & now war in the Holy Land, & the 4 Horsemen
riding straight towards WW3, I'd say it looks pretty bleak, but perhaps God will make things right.
ME rally reminds me of someone.
I’m so glad I found this also. Had no idea it was even made. Rod Serling had an amazing mind. Very relevant for today.
This is a new twist to a classic story. Dang! The Ghost of Christmas past is Steve Lawrence. I'm most familiar with him from Carol Burnett . He did good comedy. Didn't know he also did drama.
The Individual MEs are just like Gen Z, the 'me, me, me' generation.
I'm impressed, Rod was one of a kind.
Serling was a visionary. This is story-telling at its finest. Thank you, and Merry Christmas.
United Nation of Terrorists and we pay for it.
What a load of crap. The bastardization of Charles Dickens story to promote appeasement. Its this attitude that brought the world North Korea. It wasn't well received at the time it was originally broadcast. Serling's " Incident at Owl Creek" was much more powerful as an antiwar statement. Short, well timed and concise in it's message.
Oh wow. The scene with the Ghost of Christmas Future….. it was like watching the chaos in the US House and Senate. Wow. 😢

Not a bad take on a classic story. Shame nobody can explain to Putin the desperate folly of his greed and fear. Rod Serling. Amazing man. Died way before his time. Merry Christmas from old England everyone.🎄
a different version of a Chjristmas Carol. very well done! never knew RS did a version of this.
WORST version of a Christmas Carol Ive ever seen! Woketard propoganda!
hippie program. I'll stick with Sims, Finney, even Reginal Owen. All much more preferable.
Sterling Hayden was a bit of a hard ass in his part…🌲🌲🌲…Loved Robert Shaw…Mr. Sellers, not so much…
First time I've seen or heard of this movie but it's unbelievable how it mirrors what's happening politically and economically today. Please spread the word about this movie so others can watch it roo.
Wow! Rod Serling was an anti-War activist!
Leave it to Rod Serling to be disturbingly pertinent nearly 60 years later. Those "Me" freaks sound like way too many people here in America since the pandemic hit. "I," "Me," "Mine," "My Rights and Freedom" and who cares if anyone else gets hurt. How many times have we heard: "I have a right to…" travel, take a cruise, or just go to the movies/sports arenas/theme parks? Let's all have Thanksgiving at Grandpa's, and oops, we'll be holding his funeral by Christmas. But it's our right to cross state borders and go visit. And it's not just about germs. Selfishness is a a growing form of insanity. Someone has a bad day and s/he goes and shoots up the local grocery store, or drives her/his car into a crowd of kids and old people. Kids as young as 6yrs old are shooting their teachers. And it's not just here in the states; world economy, world business, world travel. And social media puts it instantly right into our faces. How many people got crushed at that Halloween party because thousands of entertainment starved human beings tried to cram into way too small of a venue? The Imperial Me would be proud. We're killing each other off, and thanks to germ warfare we don't have to rely on guns and bombs. Merry Christmas, everybody!
