ABOUT ME: Hallo, Servus, and welcome to my channel! My name is Felicia (Feli), I’m 26, and I’m a German living in the USA! I was born and raised in Munich, Germany but have been living in Cincinnati, Ohio off and on since 2016. I first came here for an exchange semester during my undergrad at LMU Munich, then I returned for an internship, and then I got my master’s degree in Cincinnati. I was lucky enough to win the Green Card lottery and have been a permanent resident since 2019! In my videos, I talk about cultural differences between America and Germany, things I like and dislike about living here, and other experiences that I have made during my time in the States. Let me know what YOU would like to hear about in the comments below. DANKE 🙂

I’m an 80 year old American, and I only heard of the Christmas pickle a few months ago!
Germany, and Europe in general, celebrates the birth of Jesus Christ, America celebrates the invention of the Coca Cola Santa.
Very good. Thank-you!
I am allergic to real Christmas trees so I use an artificial tree
Happy holidays. Congrats on being innovative. Innovation, & persistence, are critical. Germany 🇩🇪 appears to be experiencing challenges. You boyfriend may look at being a veterinarian, or psychologist, in the Air Force. SMILE.
What a wonderful video! So thankful for you explaining German traditions and Christmas celebrations. We're blessed to have you here in the USA to explain this to us. God Bless You, Merry Christmas!
I’m from Cincinnati ❤ what part?
Frohe Weihnachten, Frohes neues Jahr.
I grew up in a very German town in Iowa. Both my mom and dad’s families originated in Germany. One tradition many families of German heritage in my town had at Christmas (our family made on New Year’s Eve) called “Ferduns” (spelling American). They are made in a cast iron pan with circle shaped dips, fried in oil and rolled in sugar; the dough is made with flour, sugar, eggs, cardamon seed, and yeast and raisins and raises all day … they look like large donut holes and are so yummy. Did you know anyone in Germany that made these? We were raised Lutheran and always celebrated Advent. We lit the advent wreath and had advent calendars. Always went to candlelight service at church on Christmas Eve and it got out at midnight!
MERRY CHRISTMAS
Please fact check, your content is consistently wrong.
Feli is always getting stuff wrong! Plenty of people do real trees and fake ones too. We also have advent calendars, they are pretty common. Maybe she lives in a hole or something. I remember another video where she said we didn't have debit cards and mostly used checks. Are you tripping most technologies like debit card readers, debit cards/credit cards were established in the US. She needs to fact check things before she runs her mouth all over youtube spreading false facts. Its offensive especially because she has a large viewer base getting people believing her BS.
I grew up in Canada with a religious family and when to a Catholic school so we did the Adventure wreath every year and lit the candles on Sundays as well and it was always a wonderful time
What a great video to explain German traditions! We do 'Christmas school' as part of our homeschool during December. This has helped us understand more about this fun German traditions!
I would love to go to a Christmas Market!
I’ve heard of the Christmas Pickle. The ornaments I’ve found are very cute, so I have a few.
MERRY CHRISTMAS GODSPEED KEEP FROSTY WATCH YOUR 6 TAKE CARE 🌞Ⓜ️ 🎄✝️ ✝️ ✝️ !?
😂🤣level of faith determines how one puts it into practice
I grew up opening Christmas presents the night of Christmas Eve and I was told it was a family tradition. It definitely comes from our German ancestry, from what I can decipher! Thank you for sharing these!!
I know in Holland with St Nikolas they have Black Peter or "Schwartz Peter". He's portrayed as a naughty dark boy who has to make up for his behaviour or whatever and help him out.
I'm in New Zealand. I went to a Rudolf Steiner school. We did the whole Advent thing during school assemblies at the end of the year.
Advent calendars are very common here. You can find them for sale in some shops. They have the 24 doors and chocolates inside. Some people like to make their own too.
I've never heard of a Christmas pickle…🤔
In my family we take a walk and when we arrive there is a present from Santa Claus and in my families tradition only one of the presents for each of the children and often it's a present for me and my siblings together, like a boardgame.
That's really awesome that the kids can sing advent songs in schools which helps connect them to their culture while in school. Where I live you can't even call it Christmas! You have to say winter holiday and have winter parties because you can't be offensive to people who don't celebrate Christmas. Their is no cohesive culture in America. So sad.
We spent Christmas Eve with Extended Family when we went to a relative’s home for Christmas dinner and Santa came Christmas Eve night and we opened presents around the tree when mom woke up and we had a small special family dinner with just who lives in the house on Christmas Day
We didn’t go to the big family dinner every year
I’ve never heard of the Christmas Pickle
Thanks so much for this video, I loved learning about the German traditions. It’s very different from what I grew up with but there are a lot of these that I wish we had more of in America
I spent the first 11 years of my childhood in the Czech Republic, and our Christmas traditions are very similar.
We always got a real tree
Our family is Lutheran so we do celebrate Advent, though mainly in Church not so much at home, we open gifts both Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, the one's on Christmas Day are from Santa our Christmas meal is eaten on Christmas Day and could be a Ham and possibly a Goose or turkey, with all the fixings
Omg yess i just discovered theres a christmas market near me and im going to try and go this year
So do u keep the candles burning constantly or blow them out at night, are theyre 4 candles? Also is it just a German custom or is it polish too
So i grew up catholic with my polish adopted mom and she did was i now know was advent boxes, she gave us small presents every day till Christmas. And we celebrated st. Nicholas day and Christmas day. We also had wooden shoes where we got our little trinkets and candies for st. Nicholas day. I didnt realize how many german and polish traditions are similar. We also spent Christmas at my grandmother house and they made dumplings (perogi)
This is so nice to see. I don’t know why I had a cold perception of Germans. I’m pleasantly surprised that you guys go all out. I love Christmas 🎄
You inspired me to buy a Christmas Pickle. Thank you for all these wonderful videos. 🙂
American here. When I was a child in the 60s just about everybody used a real tree, as the fake Christmas were pretty cheap looking. Over the decades, the fake trees have gotten better, and we got one several years ago.
My parents would only put up the Christmas tree the night before Christmas, and then leave it up for about a month. Now, we'd put up a Christmas tree about two weeks before Christmas, and on New Year's Day, we'd get lots of Chinese food, and take down the tree while some football Bowl game was on TV. We don't even care who the teams are!
Your sincerity is measured by your interaction with your viewers… your response to their comments. You are prettymuch sitting at zero. The concept of LIKING and SUBSCRIBING is really a 2-way street, except with you. To keep up your phoney image, I don't expect you hav what it takes to reply but you now have something to think about. I am German but I am genuine. Look up die Integrität… it's not what I see in you!!
Excellent video! Reminds me of my childhood in Ridgewood Queens, NY. Mostly German at the time. These traditions were prevalent. Heino Christmas music was very popular, Just like Andy Williams. Enjoy. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fg4Ju7vT0GI&t=727s
Lutherans across America definitely celebrate Advent.
Advent is a thing here, if you are religious…. My wreath has five, one for Christmas Day
Funny thing is… I'am a german but have an artificial christmas tree, because I don't want to buy one every single year 😂
But its a personal favour for me, too. For me many real trees have just a few pine needles, the artificial ones are often more bushy.
Well technically Santa comes on the night of the 24 but he does come at midnight so technically the 25
Here in Labrador; my family usually give out one present to open on Christmas Eve and it’s usually pjs and some years go to church for Christmas service for advent. Also for most of the years my family would go a get a real tree to decorate but now it’s just a fake tree for convenience.
Hi there I love your videos they are great. But with Christmas my mom who is from Germany made us put the tree and all of that stuff up 12days before Christmas. Then take them down 12 days after Christmas. So where dose that come from
In recent years, Christmas Time ended is officialy at Candlemas ("Mariä Lichtmess")
https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Darstellung_des_Herrn
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Presentation_of_Jesus
, which takes place at Feburary 2nd or 40 days after Christmas. Nowadays (Nowadays! Since 1962 hi, hi! https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Second_Vatican_Council) it ends at the first sunday after the day of the Three Kings (Dreikönigstag), Jan 6th. We always try to keep our christmas tree until Feb 2nd als long as the tree doesn't get too dry and loose too much of its needles, of course.
