Summary:
It’s that time of the year again. It’s getting colder outside, the christmas lights are going up, the nights are getting longer, and children are eagerly writing their wish lists for Santa Claus. You are starting to hear christmas songs on the radio, and that only means one thing: The holidays are here! Those living in America might think that Christmas is the same all over the world, however, there are some pretty big discrepancies between the ways some countries celebrate it. This video will go over the differences between a merry Christmas in America and a merry christmas in England. We compare everything from Father Christmas to Santa Claus, Crimbo to Christmas, and other holiday traditions that are slightly different depending on which side of the Atlantic you call home.
Unusual Christmas traditions from all over the world that may leave you scratching your head!
Pickle Ornament. This one is pretty funny. German families have an interesting tradition which involves decorating their Christmas tree with a Christmas pickle. The Christmas pickle is the last ornament to be hung on the christmas tree, and is usually made of glass. According to Mental Floss, it is usually placed in a hidden spot in the christmas tree, and the first child who finds the pickle on Christmas day has good luck for the upcoming year. They also receive a special gift.
Krampus: During the month of December in Austria, people don the mask of a ghoulish, evil creature called Krampus, committing pranks and scaring children. Krampus is considered the evil accomplice of St Nicholas. According to Wikipedia, Krampus is a horned, “half goat, half demon” who haunts and punishes children during the Christmas season. Creepy!
Roller skates: On Christmas Day in Caracas, Venezuela, hundreds of people can be see on the street roller skating to mass. According to metro.co.uk, some children even tie ropes to their toes that are long enough to dangle out of their window. Roller skaters tug from ropes they see hanging from windows in the morning to wake up any children who want to watch the event.
Shoe tossing: Every Christmas Eve in the Czech Republic, single women stand outside of their front doors and throw a shoe over their shoulder. If the shoe lands with the shoes pointing towards the door, it means that the woman will be married within one year. Single ladies, get your shoes ready!
So there you have it! Some strange and funny differences between a merry Christmas in America and and a merry Christmas in England, as well as some other strange traditions from other countries around the world. So whether it be leaving treats for Santa Claus or tossing your shoe over your shoulder to find out if you’ll get married within a year, there are all sorts of crazy, fun, and strange Christmas traditions from places all over the world. If you’re a fan of all things Christmas, why not try some of the traditions in this video that you don’t usually do during the holidays?
So whether you like watching Christmas movies all day and night during the holidays, singing Christmas songs at the top of your lungs, going all out in your Christmas tree or Christmas decor or just like to keep it low key, you’re probably familiar with at least some of the Christmas traditions in this video. Sometimes it can be a little strange to see how other countries and cultures celebrate Christmas, but it’s also very interesting. The more you know, right? Merry Christmas to all, and to all a good night!

Can you do a video of Christmas in America versus Christmas in Spain?
as a brit, i can confirm barely any of this is correct.
Tell me you have no knowledge of British Christmas traditions, without telling me you have no knowledge of British Christmas traditions.
Have you ever been to England? (by which I take it you mean the UK) Have you ever even spoken to a Brit?
I’m British in my family growing up we had Santa gifts end of the bed and family gifts under the tree
This video feels like someone did a whole lot of desk research and never once spoke to a british person and so misunderstood things that feels so basic to a British person
So much shit in one video
It was painful having to endure this video. The name of our country is not England. It's Britain. And your collection of "facts" about the UK were plucked out of your arse.
Fire your researcher.
Wrong wrong wrong, hate how this video gets a British Xmas so wrong 😡
I hope people read comments so they know how terribly wrong this guy is. Sorry for all the Americans that are going to believe this.
You’re wrong on multiple occasions you need to check your fax before you go onto the Internet and YouTube you’re wrong
Wow, nearly 100% incorrect.
No.mention abt Jesus Christ
Lol and in french its for tuday or no
Where did they find this rubbish??? Totally wrong in every way.
Of course it’s different. Americans are very shallow, it’s all about presents here and has been for a long time. People don’t generally care about anything family. They def don’t give a damn about the meaning of the season. Holidays are all commercialized in the states now.
In my family we hang our stockings in the hall and on the 1st day until the 23rd all get at least one present every morning in it until the 24th when it's filled up on Christmas eve to be dumped out before you eat breakfast on Christmas morning then we open our presents .my Christmas traditions came from my swedish grandmother to have fun waiting
I have never burnt a letter to Santa, Xmas gifts are under the tree and boxing day comes from Georginan times if i'm not mistaken of the era when servant would get a box with clothes and leftover food… Also every house is different, we barely ever eat turkey, we normally eat either lamb or beef and of course veg (Roast Potatoes, carrots, parsnips, brussel sprouts, cauliflower cheese sometimes and others). You can have turkey but it's not a must. As for dessert, my favorite has always been cheese and crackers…
My most favorite Ancient Christmas Carol is the Wexford Carol from County Wexford, Ireland, (known in Gaelic as the Carul Loch Garman). I know the English Translation, but I am in the process of learning the Irish-Gaelic Translation, as well, (since I want to learn how to speak the languages of my Ancient Forebears).
I'm British, and my family doesn't have stockings
FCK RUSSIA
Throwing a letter to father Xmas on the fire 🤣😂😭 no idea where you heard this from I can fairly say I don’t know one person who’s EVER done this over here
Hold on, not correct, we leave the presents under the tree in England but according to old tradition we also leave a Christmas stocking or santas sack on the bed side and santa leaves a few small gifts in it the rest are under the tree!
It was really annoying and distracting that the "creator" of this video keeps adding "make sure you stick to the end of this video". If your content is interesting enough, you don't have to do that to retain your viewers. This is one of the very few times I gave a Youtube video a thumb down. ANNOYING!

Yikes , what a moronic notion you suggest . You actually believe Americans may not know that there are many ways of celebrating Christmas around the world ? Rubbish . There’s many ways of celebrating Christmas in the United States , Canada , South and Central Americans . Just nonsense.
We have a summer Christmas , BBQs and salads 🎄 🎁 here in New Zealand 🇳🇿 💯❤️💙
Krampus is pronounced as if it was spelled krumpus. It's a German tradition and isn't pronounced as if he came from the mid west.
Erroneous information about British Christmas!
2 days till new year
I’m from the UK and this video is 90% incorrect. The one that made me laugh was about the presents. They always go under the tree. Santa doesn’t get Brandy. Many houses compete in different villages with how many lights they decorate their houses with. Etc etc
I would like to say you can't believe everything you read on the Internet maybe if you go to the library and do some research on old fashion encyclopedias a lot of the stuff in this video is very very very incorrect😂 I lived in Germany as a child and no one ever heard of that pickle tradition actually I did a deep dive on the Internet and found out that it's getting a little bit more popular nowadays but the pickle in the Christmas tree is actually an American guy went over to Germany before the holidays and saw that they had glass blowing and he's beautiful ornaments so he came over here I made up this tradition thing trying to sell the ornaments and then it came down to somehow just a pickle, and so yeah he made up this whole math about it being a German tradition to sell it to American so we would buy the stuff and put the pickle Eritrean he would make money and then it's silly went back over to Germany anyways I definitely see you should look into it because it makes me laugh when people say it's a German tradition when it did not originate there at all😂
if you going to make a video about certain topic, make yourself a favour and do a bit of research, so you wont come out as a complete dumbo
You really should check your facts before putting out videos like this.
Virtually EVERYTHING was wrong.
AS AN ENGLISHMAN, I WANT TO SPEAK FOR ALL OF US AND TELL YOU THAT YOU HAVE ABSOLUTELY NO IDEA WHAT YOU ARE TALKING ABOUT.
This video seems to drag on & on and repeat itself frequently, especially the title. Just get to the point.
Edit: And apparently triggered the English 😆
